Learn to Canoe in Banbury this Summer Cherwell Canoe Club runs novice courses every summer in Banbury. These take place at Grimsbury Reservoir on Wednesday evenings between 7pm and 8pm. There will be 3 courses of 5 weeks each, running through May, July and August. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment. The novice course is a basic introduction into the sport of canoeing and kayaking with qualified instructors in a safe and controlled environment. All the necessary equipment is provided. The courses are geared for both adults and children although partipants must be over 8 years olds and under 16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All participants must be able to swim 50 metres. The course covers the basic techniques needed to manoever a kayak on flat water as well as important safety principles and is the basis to developing skills neccesary to progress onto whitewater or any of the competetive disciplines. Each course runs for 5 weeks with an assessment at the end . As part of the course there will also be an opportunity to take part on a river trip on a local river (usually on a Saturday or a Sunday). This year we are running three separate courses, the first of these starts early in May. For more information please email Courses@CherwellCC.org.uk or contact us. The sessions on the reservoir are held at Banbury Cross Sailing Club HQ off Hennef Way in Banbury.
